What is knitting?

The so-called knitting is the use of knitting needles to form a coil of various raw materials and varieties of yarn, and then connected into a knitted fabric by a series of sets.

Knitted fabrics have soft texture, good wrinkle resistance and breathability, and have greater extensibility and elasticity, while woven generally have little or no elasticity.

1589 English clergyman William Lee (William Lee) invented the first hand knitting machine.

With the invention of the electric motor in the 1870s, hand knitting machines were replaced by high-speed electric knitting machines.

According to different technological characteristics, knitting production is divided into two categories: weft knitting and warp knitting.

Warp knitted fabric is formed by using multiple yarns simultaneously in a longitudinal (warp) sequence along the fabric surface.

Warp knitted fabrics are divided into two categories:

One is Raschel fabric, the main features are large flower shape, rough cloth, more holes, mainly to do decorative fabric;

The second is tricot fabric, fine cloth, less color, but high output, mainly made of covered fabrics and printed fabrics, such fabrics are mostly used for chemical fiber filament, otherwise the production efficiency is very low

In weft knitting production, the bobbin yarn can be produced directly after the raw material has been winded. To form a weft weave, one or more yarns are sequentially looped along the transverse (weft) side of the fabric.

Weft knitted goods can be formed with at least one yarn, but in order to improve production efficiency, it is generally used to weave multiple yarns; Warp knitted fabrics can not be formed from a single yarn, a yarn can only form a chain of coils.

There are also ways to combine weft knitting and warp knitting on some knitting machines. At this time, the knitting machine is configured with two groups of yarn, one group according to the warp knitting method, and the other group according to the weft knitting method, the knitting needle together the two groups of yarn to form a coil, forming a knitted fabric.

The coils formed from the same yarn are arranged along the weft in a weft knitted fabric and along the warp in a warp knitted fabric.

The yarn is formed into a coil, which is formed into a knitted fabric through a longitudinal set and a transverse connection. So the circle is the basic process of knitting.

The loop formation process can be broken down into the following stages in order:

Unwinding - move the newly formed coil (called the old coil) from the needle hook to the needle bar;

Cushion yarn - to feed yarn onto a knitting needle;

Yarn bending - bending yarn into a coil shape;

Ribbon - move the yarn on the new pad or the newly bent coil into the needle hook;

Closed mouth - closed knitting needle mouth;

Loop - to trap old thread over a closed needle hook;

Winding - the new yarn or new coil meets the old coil inside and outside the needle hook;

Unwinding - the old coil is removed from the needle hook and placed on the new coil;

To make a new coil of yarn of a closed and specified size;

Pull - Pull the new coil away from the loop area.

The new coil becomes the old coil in the next cycle.

There are two kinds of loop forming process: knitting method and braiding method. In the process of knitting, the various stages of knitting are carried out in the above order. in

In the process of knitting, yarn bending starts from unwinding and is carried out simultaneously with the winding stage.

In some knitting machines, each knitting needle completes the circle process in sequence; There are also some knitting machines where the loop formation process is carried out at the same time with only the knitting needles in a whole row.
